I would consider my three main sources of media to be the following platforms: Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Considering my age, I am more into looking and following/friending other millenials like myself. Therefore, many things I see on social media could be relatable to me, and that is why these are my Go-To sources. The reliablilty of them vary. There are lots of fake accounts or "catfish" people out there that share faux information and it could spread like wildfire. These three platforms can definitly be helpful and reliable, but can also be dangerously tricky.
"Fake news," in the media ecosystem I feel is getting more common everyday. There are stories you can't believe, and things put out there that have no backup information even if you wanted to believe it. After watching Stephanie Busari's Ted Talk "How Fake News Does Real Harm" I have learned some ways that a future blogger (like myself) and other journalists can get the real information they need. Busari shares that to figure out if information on social media is legit, a good way to break the case is by asking yourself really hard questions. For example "why is this person posting or sharing this?" or "what is there motive, what do they gain out of this?" Once you've asked yourself these questions, as well as finding backup evidence about the information given, then that is the time it would okay to pass it on to others. Also watching the Youtube video "Did You Know 2016", the internet is expanding and thriving each and everyday. So the more people enter the world of social media, the more there can be ways to catch false things lurking on it! The Pew Research Center is another handy tool that issues reports from the social media industry that can help create a more real and truthful internet environment for many people!
